Will laughed along with the group to one of his friends' jokes, setting his

glass down on the table with a thunk. He wasn't quite sure he'd heard it right,
6
with how noisy the bar was, but the atmosphere was infectious; he was glad he'd
7
finally let his friends talk him into this. You only turn 21 once, they'd said;
8
you can take one night off to be stupid and have a good time. So far, he felt
9
like he was doing pretty well on both counts. They'd started with shots, and at
10
this point he was more than halfway through his second beer, feeling more than
11
a little buzzed.

He felt a tap on his shoulder, and turned to see his best friend, George,
14
leaning over to talk to him. "Dude, there's a woman over at the bar who keeps
15
looking this way; I think she's checking you out." He gave a small nod in the
16
direction. "Third from the left." Will glanced over. It took him a few seconds
17
to find the right person; she was sipping something and looking down at her
18
phone. "You sure?" he asked. "Positive. You should go introduce yourself!"

Will knew he wasn't bad looking. He was a young guy, in decent enough shape,
21
and his close-cropped beard and shoulder-length hair fit the shape of his face
22
and brought out the warm brown of his eyes. Still, in a larger group, he wasn't
23
usually the one women stared at. With his past girlfriends, he'd always been
24
the one to show interest first.

Still, there was a first time for everything—and what was tonight for, if not
27
being a little reckless? He flashed George a grin. "You better not be messing
28
with me," he said, before pushing off of his stool and making his way across
29
the room.

The woman looked up as he approached. "Hi," he said, "my name's Will. Can I buy

you drink?"

Charlotte needed a good reason to get out tonight. With building pressure to
37
complete assignments creeping up on the horizon for the next few months the
38
idea of going out and having a bit of fun to distract herself was well needed.

So heading to one of the best watering holes within walking distance from the
40
college dorms was fitting. Packed as usual she was surprised a table was
41
available and quickly swept it up, sitting herself after swagging a drink from
42
the bar. Several cocktails later she was certainly into the buzzed stage but
43
holding herself enough well enough.

Brushing her dark curled hair back over her shoulder her eyes scanned about the
46
room, mostly just being curious to look about. It was then she spotted what
47
looked like a group of young freshmen out for a drink, clear they were new
48
given they weren't holding themselves in much the manner of those that'd been
49
through the college grinder. And there among them was one that really caught
50
her eye. Scanning up and down his form before she looked away, thinking over
51
her next move. Hurt before by others when she'd opened up to them Charlotte
52
wanted to double check.

While glancing back and forth, sipping at her cocktail, she started to try scan
55
through her phone and see if she could uncover anything about who this was. Not
56
an easy task but given most around the college are connected to one another it
57
just needed to look through the right profiles. Flicking her eyes back over
58
from time to time to keep a fresh image in her mind of who she was looking for,
59
trying to resist smiling when she thought he was looking back. Though when her
60
eye candy started to move she slipped the phone away and turned to him.

"Hi, it's nice to meet you Will. Charlotte. And you can certainly buy me a

drink. What college girl would turn down a free offer?" Smirking and playing
64
with him a little.

"You've got a point there," he said, smiling back at her. "Nice to meet you,

Charlotte. What're you having?" She told him, and he returned from the bar

shortly after with drinks for both of them, taking the empty seat at her table.

He'd noticed her watching him as he ordered, which had to be a good sign,

right?

"So, you're a student here too, huh?" he asked, striking up a conversation. He

and his friends had chosen the bar for its proximity to campus, so it wasn't a

surprise to hear her introduce herself as a college girl, though he couldn't
77
recall having seen her in any of his classes. "What're you majoring in? I'm
78
planning on journalism, though I haven't declared yet."

"Surprise me, but make it fruity." Putting him to the test to see what he'd

return with before watching him slip back to the bar. Dark brown eyes unable to

resist running down his back to check him out before moving back up just in

time to catch him turning back. Trying to play it off as if she wasn't watching

him she tired to make a show of turning away, only to turn her head back to
87
him.

"Yeah I'm a senor. Got a major in game design mechanics. Weird I'd not thought

it an option when I came here." Shrugging and looking down at the drink he'd

brought, suitably satisfied he'd made the right pick. "So why journalism? You

like getting into other peoples business? That isn't you've come to me is it?"

Leaning back a little with drink in hand and raising her brow to a playful

suspicious look.

He laughed softly. "No, no, not at all; tonight's purely about pleasure for me,

not business," he said. Looking into her eyes, he decided to play along and

tease her a little in return. "What about you; are you just here to play

games?" he asked, his lips curling in a playful smirk.

Trying to resist smiling as she caught wind of him playing along Charlotte

hummed her lips to one side trying to conjure up a witty retort. "I guess you

could say I'm 'playing the field' so to say. Though I think I might have found

my star player this evening." Leaning forwards to rest her chin on her hands

and elbows on the table, chest squeezing between said arms to expand a valley

of cleavage before him.

He couldn't resist glancing down at her generous chest, and when his eyes met

hers again, he could tell that she knew exactly what she was doing. She was

trying to keep a straight face, but she couldn't keep the smile out of her

eyes. "Think you can bring home the trophy, then?" he asked, raising an eyebrow

and smiling in spite of himself. Clever and cute. He really wanted to see this

girl laugh, he decided.

He'd have his desire as she couldn't help but give a tiny giggle at his remark,

the smile breaking across her lips. "Mmm... I think I can find a fitting place

to mount that in pride and place." Taking the drink and sipping a little. "So

then cute thing, you allowed to leave your friends or are they going to kick

off if you slipped out?"

He spared a glance back at his friends' table. George, who had apparently been

keeping an eye on their conversation, gave him a thumbs-up. "I think they'll

manage without me," he said, turning back to her with a grin. "Where to?"

Leaning slightly to see who else was among his group he needed 'permission' to

allow himself to step away from. "Well my room isn't far from the Campus dorms.

Couldn't do with sharing a room so got myself a flat. Unless you've somewhere

better in mind?" Even before he'd respond Charlotte was already slipping

herself from the stool and standing next to the table. Taking a last sig of her

drink and waiting on him. Regardless if he wanted to come back to hers or not

getting out of the crowded and noisy bar was preferable than discussing it

inside.
